Friday and Saturday, April 8 and 9, promise to be interesting and challenging days.

The 12th National Black Land Loss Summit is set in the beautiful Tillery Resettlement Community, Tillery, NC, and Halifax Community College, Weldon, NC. See here for complete details. View this link for the greater Halifax area.

Participants will arrive, meet, greet, and view the Historical Site of the Tillery Resettlement Community. Dinner, viewing, and discussion of the documentary, We Shall Not Be Moved will orient the weekend.

Saturday's activities will be held at the campus of Halifax Community College, Weldon, NC beginning at 9:00 am. Topics include The Real Story of Pigford I and II; The Wise Class Action: The Denial of Class Certification and Its Aftermath, Living, Dying, and Thriving: Family Life and the USDA, Land Loss; Confusing Statistics, and Economics of Land Ownership: USDA Rural Development and Forestry Divisions: Operation Spring Plant; Land Loss Prevention Project's Smart Growth Business Center; Getting Black Youth Back to Farming; Building the Coop Buying Clubs with the City Cousins; and Where We Go From Here: Planning the Future.

Speakers are Gary Grant, President of BFAA; Rose Sanders, attorney; Dr. Ridgely M'Min, Manager, Nation of Islam farm; Stephon Bowens, attorney; Dr. Waymon Hinson, family psychologist, Oklahoma; Dr. Spencer Wood, professor KSU, Kansas; Dorathy Barker, Operation Spring Plant; Eddie Woodhouse, FSA; Crystal Matthews, attorney; Scott Muhammad, farmer; Eddie Wise, farmer; Barry Crumbley, activist; Willie Wright, Research Associate.

It will be a memorable weekend.

Social Justice Team III

Team III formed in the Spring, 2007 and is currently researching these topics: Brian: history of Black farmers and farming; Sarah: USDA/FSA; Michelle: Pigford v. Glickman; Scott: theology of social justice; Heather: land loss; Rebecca: advocacy, theory and practice; and Kimberly: institutional racism. You have read some of their words, ideas, and emotions on these pages.

We will submit abstracts to present at the Texas Association for Marriage and Family Therapy in 2008 and the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy later in 2008 as well.
